The Poole lab studies the structural and chemical bases for the enzymatic functions of AhpF and AhpC. These enzymes operate together to form the components of alkyl hydroperoxide reductase (AhpR), a crticial enzyme responsible for NAD(P)H-linked reduction of toxic organic hydroperoxides In bacteria such as Salmonella typhimurium and Escherichia coli.
