Marek's Disease Ovarian Cell Line (MDCC-UA04)

MDCC (Marek's disease cell culture) UA04 cells were established from a ovary-localized lymphoma using a recombinant Marek's disease virus (MDV), strain RB-1B, in which the US2 gene was disrupted by a CMV-gfp (S65T) expression cassette in which the splice donor site downstream of the GFP coding sequence was deleted.

Highlights:

  • Expression of GFP is tightly controlled in these cells, with 2 - 5 % spontaneously expressing GFP
  • Expression is induced during reactivation of the MDV from latency, therefore cells are ideal for studying the early events of reactivation

Marek's disease is a highly contagious viral neoplastic disease in chickens. Marek's disease is caused by an alphaherpesvirus known as 'Marek's disease virus' (MDV) or Gallid herpesvirus 2 (GaHV-2). The disease is characterized by the presence of T cell lymphoma as well as infiltration of nerves and organs by lymphocytes.
