Research in Dr. Hao's group involves the fabrication and applications of novel metallic nanostructures. The lab has developed an efficient synthesis method for creating hollow gold nanoparticles. These particles have porous gold shells that can allow for the diffusion of materials into the core of the hollow particle.

Nobel metal nanoparticles are the subject of intense research for such applications as Raman spectroscopy, bioimaging, photothermal therapy, and drug delivery.
