Anti-CD4, Cytoplasmic Tail [10C12] Antibody

This mouse IgG monoclonal antibody recognizes an epitope within amino acids 414-433 of the cytoplasmic tail region of human cluster of differentiation antignen 4 (CD4).

Highlights:

  • Reacts with the region of the human CD4 gene corresponding to the cytoplasmic tail
  • Ideal for studies of the role of selenium metabolism and selenoproteins in diseases, such as infectious diseases and cancer
  • Tested for Western Blot, Immunofluorescence, and ELISA applications

Eukaryotic genes end with one of three stop codons, UGA, UAA, or UAG. Of these three, UGA is unique. In addition to functioning as a stop codon, UGA is also the codon for the twenty-first amino acid, selenocysteine. The biological bases for the dual function of the UGA codon are not entirely clear. Selenocysteine plays a critical role in physiology, and perturbations of selenium intake and metabolism can have disastrous consequences. CD4 is a membrane glycoprotein of T lymphocytes that interacts with major histocompatibility complex class II antigenes and is also a receptor for the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The cytoplasmic tail region transmits a signal in response to p56-lck. HIV nef is also known to interact with the cytoplasmic tail of CD4.
