Various cytochrome (CYP) 450 enzymes overexpressed in human embryonic kidney (HEK293) cell line.

Highlights:

  • Useful for assessing the metabolism of aromatase inhibitors including exemestane, nicotine, as well as several tobacco carcinogens.
  • Low CYP background activity avoids false-positive and sometimes false-negative results, as well as erroneous enzyme activity kinetics

Cytochrome P450 are enzymes metabolize medications that are ingested as well as internal substances, such as toxins that are formed within cells. Enzymes produced from the cytochrome P450 genes are involved in the formation and breakdown of various molecules and chemicals within cells. Cytochrome P450 enzymes play a role in the synthesis of many molecules including steroid hormones, certain fats (cholesterol and other fatty acids), and acids used to digest fats (bile acids).
