Anti-Mycoplasma gallisepticum Surface Epitope Antibodies

These IgG monoclonal antibodies were generated against various strains of Mycoplasma galliespticum and recognize M. gallisepticum surface epitopes.

Highlights:

  • Reacts with M. gallisepticum surface epitopes
  • Have the potential to be used in vaccine development, as additional components
  • 12D10.H5 and 6A10.H6 exhibited similar inhibiting potency against 4 HA units of five different Mg strains. Partial HI was observed at Mab concentration from 20 to 50 µg/mL, while 4 to 16 times higher concentration yielded complete HI, but appear not to inhibit haemadsorption
  • 3D6.C6 reacts strongly with p98 protein (98 kDa, PI=5.2) and with F, R, S6, A5969 and ts11 strains, and does not react with M. synoviae or M. iowae, and very little/no reaction is observed against 6/85 membrane
  • 3D6.C6 has potential for serodiagnostic development
  • Suitable for ELISA, DIBA, Immunoblotting, Immunoperoxidase assay and Haemagglutination Inhibition applications

Mycoplasma gallisepticum (Mg) is a bacterium belonging to the class Mollicutes and the family Mycoplasmataceae. It is the causative agent of chronic respiratory disease (CRD) in chickens and infectious sinusitis in turkeys, chickens, game birds, pigeons, and passerine birds, causing some levels of mortality. Once infected, they are carriers for the disease for life.Since the disease causes reduced feed and growth production, carcass condemnations, and retarded growth in juveniles, serious economic losses have occurred. Also, chickens have been documented to lose about 16 eggs over their laying cycle of 45 weeks. Mycoplasma lack cell walls, have highly variable surface proteins and a distinctive plasma membrane, and are the smallest self-replicating prokaryotes. Mycoplasma can cause disease in humans, animals, insects, and plants. Isolates of Mycoplasma gallisepticum (Mg) vary widely in their pathogenicity depending on the nature of the isolate, its method of propagation, and the number of passages. Among Mg strains significant differences have also been observed in their tissue tropism, transmission and in the immune response they induce.
