The type I ryanodine receptor (RyR1), also known as skeletal muscle calcium release channel or skeletal muscle-type ryanodine receptor, is a protein found primarily in skeletal muscle. The main role of this protein is to form an ion channel that transports calcium ions from an intracellular sarco/endoplasmic reticulum storage compartment to the cytoplasm. Additionally, the RyR1 protein plays a critical role in muscles that are used for movement by causing them to contract.

Protocol notes

Remove media from flask and rinse with 1X PBS without calcium and magnesium. Add Trypsin-EDTA (0.05%) and put in 37°C incubator until cells detach. Add some fresh media to stop trypsinization (2X as much as added trypsin). Transfer some of cell suspension to a new flask containing fresh media to maintain cells.
