Dr. Comolettii's laboratory is interested in how neurons connect to each other to form synapses and how their connectivity may be altered in autism and other childhood disorders. In particular, they focus on the molecular aspects of synaptic connectivity and the cellular functions of several trans-synaptic adhesion molecules such as the neuroligins, neurexins, latrophilins, etc. They are also engaged in large-scale projects aimed at discovering novel molecular interactions that are critical to build and maintain new synapses, and enable them to function properly.
