Musculoskeletal Biomechanics Services

The Musculoskeletal Biomechanics Laboratory has in-house facilities for experimental and computational studies of cells, tissues, organs and whole body biomechanics.

Offered Services:

  • Experimental and computational analysis of the mechanical behavior of hard and soft biological tissues and biomaterials.
  • Development of cell mechanics and tissue engineering model systems for the studies of acute and chronic injuries and for understanding disease processes and efficacy of prevention or treatment strategies.
  • Automatic tracking of cell proliferation, differentiation and migration in two and three-dimensional cell cultures.
  • Role of the distributions of internal mechanical deformations, strains and stresses within cells and tissues in the aetiology of injuries and development of diseases and disorders.
  • Analyses of the static and dynamic large deformation, viscoelastic behaviors of tissues and organ structures.
  • Development of methodologies for computer-aided planning, simulation and enhancement of medical treatments, including implants and surgical procedures.
  • Design, evaluation and testing of medical devices for preventing, diagnosing and treating chronic wounds (e.g. support surfaces such as cushions and mattresses, interface pressure monitoring systems etc.).
