Brainbow Antibodies

These polyclonal antibodies were designed for use with Brainbow applications, and are capable of distinguishing between individual neurons in the brain.

Highlights:

  • Green fluorescent protein (GFP), mTFP, mCherry, and red (orange) fluorescent protein (TagRFP) antibodies avaliable
  • Tested with mouse, drosophila and zebrafish tissues
  • Suitable for fluorescent imaging applications

The brainbow process works by randomly expressing different ratios of red, green, and blue derivatives of green fluorescent protein in individual neurons, it is possible to flag each neuron with a distinctive color. This process has been a major contribution to the field of connectomics, or the study of neural connections in the brain.

  • Chicken-anti-GFP: Antibody recognizes fluorescent proteins originated from jellyfish (Aequorea victoria), tested on mAmetrine, EBFP2, ECFP, Cerulean, EGFP, sfGFP, EYFP, mCitrine and Venus. No detectable cross-reactivity when used together with fluorescent proteins listed in the other forms.
  • Rabbit-anti-mCherry: Antibody recognizes fluorescent proteins originated from coral (Discosoma sp.), tested on mOrange2, tdTomato, mCherry, DsRed. No detectable cross-reactivity when used together with fluorescent proteins listed in the other forms.
  • Rat-anti-mTFP: Antibody recognizes fluorescent proteins originated from coral (Clavularia sp.), tested on mTFP and mWasabi. No detectable cross-reactivity when used together with fluorescent proteins listed in the other forms.
  • Guinea Pig-anti-TagRFP: Antibody recognizes fluorescent proteins originated from sea anemone (Entacmaea quadricolor), tested on TagBFP, TagRFP, TagRFPt, mKate2, tdKatushka2. No detectable cross-reactivity when used together with fluorescent proteins listed in the other forms.
