Low Voltage-Activated (LVA), T-type, Ca+ Channel (Cav3) HEK293 Cell Lines

Three distinct HEK-293 cell lines expressing non-toxic proteins; voltage gated calcium channels called Cav3.1, Cav3.2, or Cav3.3.

Highlights:

  • Express low voltage-activated (LVA), T-type, Ca2+ Channel (Cav) 3.1, 3.2, or 3.3
  • All cDNAs of human origin
  • Cav3.x expression is under G418 selection (0.4 mg/ml maintenance, 1 mg/ml to prepare frozen aliquots)

Voltage-sensitive calcium channels (VSCC) mediate the entry of calcium ions into excitable cells and are also involved in a variety of calcium-dependent processes, including muscle contraction, hormone or neurotransmitter release, gene expression, cell motility, cell division and cell death. The three isoforms, Cav3.1 (alpha-1G), Cav3.2 (alpha-1H), and Cav3.3 (alpha-1I), give rise to T-type calcium currents. T-type calcium channels belong to the "low-voltage activated (LVA)" group and are strongly blocked by mibefradil and various novel blockers (E.g., TTA-P2; Click Here for a complete list). A particularity of this type of channel is an opening at quite negative potentials and a voltage-dependent inactivation. T-type channels serve pacemaking functions in both central neurons and cardiac nodal cells and support calcium signaling in secretory cells and vascular smooth muscle. They may also be involved in the modulation of firing patterns of neurons which is important for information processing as well as in cell growth processes.
